salzburg by guessHello people!!!!!
Here is Group 1 again. We visited a wonderful place called Salzburg in Austria…
it took us about two and a half hours from Munich to reach there…
Before we went there, we felt that it was going to be boring as we heard that we would be visiting a salt mine. We assumed that it was going to be filled with salt and the tour guide would just go on and on about the history of the place but we were wrong. When we reached there, we were told to wear clinical overalls. It was very rugged and brownish in colour, making us look exactly like miners. Next we were told to go underground where we boarded the tram. We were packed closely together.
The tram took us into the salt mine and there was a camera at the top of the tunnel which took a photo of all of us. We expected it as the guide told about it. After 5 minutes we alighted and it was dark and muddy. We took a short walk and entered an extended part of the cave where we saw a video which was about the how the salt mine was discovered. Next we made our way to the slide which was 200 feet deep into the ground. It was a faster way to travel down the tunnel in the past. We were all scared to slide down as it was steep. While sliding down, we were screaming at the top of our voices. The experience was great and we wanted to do it again. Subsequently, we went further into the tunnel where we watched another video showing how mining took place. Next we were led to a boat that brought us across a man made lake which was 2 meters deep and 7 meters wide. We saw a lot of rocks and the most distinctive one was the red rock which contained 98% salt and 2% iron which gave it the red colour.
We moved deeper into the tunnel until we reached another slide and this time it was 300 feet deep. Wow! We were so excited and eager to slide down this time. After sliding once, we all ran out the stairs so that we could slide down again. However, on the way up, some of us regretted as we needed to climb 138 steps but in the end it was worth it. We saw the last part of the video and the handsome tour guide explained about the artifacts and how people in the past use to pump air into the salt mine, maintaining the temperature at 10 degree. After that we were surprised to find an escalator which brought us out. It was so far the longest escalator that I had ever used. When we reached to the top we took a tram back.
This whole experience was fantastic and fascinating. It was not what we expected and we felt that salt mines are indeed not boring at all. We were grateful that the teachers brought us here to have such a great time!!!!!!!
