Our Salt Mine adventure! We’re Group 3 here! We’re going to share our adventure into the Salt Mine at Salzburg. The actual depth of the Salt Mine is 6oo feet deep. However, we didn’t go all the way down as only miners do that.
Before entering the Salt Mine, we were asked to wear a weird white overall to prevent our clothing from getting dirty. We then made our way to take the tram into the Salt Mine. The tram experience was unforgettable too! We had to sit very closely together, while taking the tram. However cramped it was, somehow we were laughing our way in.
The temperature in the cave was 10 degrees Celsius. Wondered how they controlled the air ventilation? They actually installed doors to prevent strong drafts of wind from circulating around the mines.
We then walked deeper into the mine. It was a different experience for all of us because we had never walked into such a massive and deep mine. The tunnels were less than 2 meters tall and it was rather wet and muddy. We then watched short clips on how the miners extracted salt from this mine.
Next, which was our favorite part, we had to go down a slide used by miners in the past to go deeper into the mine. It was really fun to be sliding at a very fast speed into the depths of the Earth!
We really admired the tour guide’s job, bringing people around in a mine almost everyday, explaining to people who have no idea about the creation of salt just like us. Also, we were filmed on German television! Next, we were given the opportunity to taste the brine that contains 27% salt. Now, we can’t wait to get back to Singapore to find out the percentage of salt content in our sea water.
Honestly, when we were told that we were going into a mine, all we did was to sigh and wondered why the teachers actually included this activity in our trip but after the trip, we even asked the teachers if we could enter the mine again because we really enjoyed ourselves and gain a different experience that we will never be able to do in Singapore. Now, we are looking forward to adventures that we will be experiencing in the next 4 days. Hold on for more!
