Humanities Trip To Europe 2008!
One word, Fabulous!
This trip made an impact on me, and definitely is a trip that I will never forget!
I've learnt many things from this trip, so much that i can go on for days!
-
Firstly, friendship. I didn't know half the people here. We left Singapore in different group, and amazingly, we came back as 1 big group. It felt great! We were helping one another, encouraging, motivating and caring for each other.
We really got together, along with the teachers too!
To me, i really felt that the accompaniment is the one that made this trip an unforgettable trip!
-
Secondly, experience. Every place had different atmospheres and a different histories. And it's different experiencing it yourself compared to watching it from the television. Never did i thought that i will actually visit Europe. We visited Neuschwanstein Castle, Dachau Concentration Camp, Munich City, Salt Mine in Salzburg, Venice, Vatican City, The Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Pompeii and even climbed Mount Vesuvius which was an active volcano! The fact that i visited this tourist attraction places is unbelievable! The experience of climbing to the crater of an active volcano on Mount Vesuvius is a memorable one! Everyone was motivating and encouraging one another to the top. Not forgetting, singing the school song on our way down as it was like a Breakthrough for us. Although I've learnt about World War II, honestly, it didn't leave any impacts on me. I couldn't feel anything for those people. But after we were brought to the Dachau Concentration Camp and were made to imagine ourselves in the shoe's of those people who went through this war especially at the Gas Chamber, i was filled with anger and sympathy. Never did i thought that War would be to that extent. But however painful i felt, it cannot be compared to those who experienced it themselves.
Going to these places really gave me a new experience.
-
Thirdly, knowledge. I've absorbed many information from this trip.
A lot of information that i never knew and even bother to find out! -ashamed-
I've always admired the Colosseum but I didn't know that it was a place where fighter called Gladiators fight against humans and animals to the extent of people being killed and it was actually a form of entertainment in the past. Also, I've heard people saying that they visited Venice but i didn't realize that it was a city on water and there was no form of vehicle there! And I wasn't aware that Venice is going to vanish in time to come, which is because its sinking. Next, I didn't even know that Pompeii existed! People who lived in Pompeii in the past died due to an eruption of a volcano at Mount Vesuvius, which we climbed. We also got to see the moulds of these people's last moments before they died. Also, visiting the Dachau Concentration Camp made me realize how important multi-racial and multi-religion is.
And that everyone should prevent racism as it will not do any good at all.
-
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the teachers for organizing and bringing us for this trip. Which allowed all of us to experience, learnt and got together in many ways. Also to the school for giving a green light to this Humanities trip. Not forgetting Mr Den and Mr Jani. And most importantly, the other 15 teammates that made this trip an enjoyable and unforgettable one for me! Greatly appreciated!
